A reminder to savor the ordinary beauty in the world.

Photo: A beautiful dawn on an ordinary winter day.

It’s been a while since my last post—in my defense I’m in the final stages of production on my latest video, “TWA: The Rise & Fall”—but that very circumstance gave rise to the photo that is the subject of this article. Because there’s so much work still to be done on the video, I decided to get up a little earlier than usual today. When I came out into the living room of my apartment, which faces a balcony that offers this courtyard view, I happened to see this absolutely stunning sunrise sky. This photo is not doctored in any way such as with filters or color adjustments. This is exactly what it looked like. This blaze of color lasted only a few minutes, but I managed to capture it at exactly the right time.

There’s a lot wrong with the world right now and more than ample cause for concern and despair. But sometimes, something as simple as a winter sunrise on an otherwise ordinary and unremarkable winter’s day in Oregon can give you some hope. I’m glad to have seen this, and also glad to be in a position to share it with all of you. The sun will rise tomorrow too. It might not be as pretty as it was today, but then again, if you’re in the right place at the right time, perhaps it will be.

If all goes well the next article will be the “Behind the Scenes” breakdown of the TWA history video. Until then, take care.
